At Times, We All Need Some Extra Support!
Clinical Director/ Marriage & Family Therapist
I work with Individuals and Couples in Maplewood, Minnesota.
I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and have found success in helping couples who struggle with issues related to conflict, trust, infidelity, and other unresolved issues. Many therapists will say that they work with or use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, but have not completed the specialized and rigorous training that entails the competency to use it. It is imperative that you choose a therapist for your relationship who is well trained and competent in couples therapy because an untrained therapist can diminish your chances of relationship success greatly.
I am passionate about this because I have been a client in couples therapy and have experienced someone who was essentially “practicing” what they learned from a book, and not through the proper training that addresses the complexities that an intimate relationship contains. The benefits of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy include decreased anxiety when conflicts occur, effective listening and communication skills, the creation of positive interactions (that used to be highly charged and damaging), increased trust and intimacy, comfort in managing and working through impasses, and a better understanding of each other’s needs.
Most of us are not taught how to have healthy interactions with our partner. Working with a therapist who is warm and effective in creating a non-judgmental place to help you work through relationship issues that may feel shameful and embarrassing, is the basis for your relationship growth. It is my goal first and foremost for you to feel comfortable, as if you are talking to a real human being, and not the stereotypical “shrink.” My approach is centered on you feeling comfortable and focused on teaching and helping you to apply solutions you can begin to use right away.
